1. life expectancy   noun [uncountable/countable]   

原句: Life expectancies of home components depend on the quality of the appliance and its installation, as well as intensity of use.

意思: the number of years that a person is likely to live; the length of time that sth is likely to exist or continue for 

例句: The life expectancy of a large bus is about 15 years.


2. oversized   adjective   

原句: And an oversized table.

意思: bigger than the normal size; too big 

例句: She wore a pair of baggy jeans and an oversized T-shirt.



3. gamble   noun   

原句: That's a serious gamble for a chain that's spent four decades and billions of dollars establishing a highly recognized brand.

意思: an action that you take when you know there is a risk but when you hope that the result will be a success

字源: early 18th cent.: from obsolete gamel ‘play games’, or from the verb game. 

例句: She knew she was taking a gamble but decided it was worth it.



4. conceivably   adverb   

原句: Just based on the sheer number of Starbucks stores, it could conceivably cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

意思: that you can imagine or believe 

例句: The disease could conceivably be transferred to humans.



5. await   verb   

原句: Starbucks officials, awaiting consumer reviews.

意思:
a. to wait for sb/sth
b. to be going to happen to sb

字源: Middle English: from Anglo-Norman French awaitier, from a- (from Latin ad ‘to, at’) + waitier ‘to wait’. 

例句:
