1. compensate   verb   

原句: Precisely tracking the image, compensating for the Earth's rotation.

意思:
a. to provide sth good to balance or reduce the bad effects of damage, loss, etc.
b. to pay sb money because they have suffered some damage, loss, injury, etc

字源: mid 17th cent. (in the sense ‘counterbalance’): from Latin compensat- ‘weighed against’, from the verb compensare, from com- ‘together’ + pensare (frequentative of pendere ‘weigh’). 

例句:
a. Nothing can compensate for the loss of a loved one.
b. Her lawyers say she should be compensated for the suffering she had been caused.


2. degradation   noun   

原句: Resulting in image degradation.

意思: the process of sth being damaged or made worse

字源: mid 16th cent. (in the sense deposition from an office or rank as a punishment): from Old French, or from ecclesiastical Latin degradatio(n-), from the verb degradare, from de- ‘down, away from’ + Latin gradus ‘step or grade’. 

例句: He wants to seek out the main reasons of the environmental degradation.



3. cooperate   verb   

原句: The weather must cooperate with cloudless skies.

意思:
a. to work together with sb else in order to achieve sth
b. to be helpful by doing what sb asks you to do

字源: late 16th cent.: from ecclesiastical Latin cooperat- ‘worked together’, from the verb cooperari, from co- ‘together’ + operari ‘to work’. 

例句:
a. The two groups agreed to cooperate with each other.
b. Their captors told them they would be killed unless they cooperated.



4. elevation   noun   

原句: The elevation is between 2,000 to 3,000 feet.

意思: the height of a place, especially its height above sea level

字源: late Middle English: from Latin elevatio(n-), from elevare ‘raise’ from e- (variant of ex-) ‘out, away’ + levare ‘lighten’ 

例句: The city is at an elevation of 2 000 metres.




5problematic   adjective   

原句: The four- or five-hour drive would be problematic.

意思: difficult to deal with or to understand; full of problems; not certain to be successful

字源: early 17th cent.: via French from late Latin problematicus, from Greek problēmatikos, from problēma, from proballein ‘put forth’, from pro ‘before’ + ballein ‘to throw’. 

例句: The situation is more problematic than we first thought.
