1. upend   verb   

原句: Technology, which has already upended the music, television and movie businesses, is now gripping the comic book world.

意思: to turn sb/sth upside down 

例句: The bicycle lay upended in a ditch.



2. liken to   phrase  
 

原句: The author likens Jim and Della to the three Magi.

意思: to compare one thing or person to another and say they are similar 

例句: Life is often likened to a journey.



3. generosity   noun [uncountable]   

原句: That optimism begets generosity.

意思: the fact of being generous  (= willing to give sb money, gifts, time or kindness freely)

字源: late Middle English (denoting nobility of birth): from Latin generositas, from generosus ‘magnanimous’, from genus, gener- ‘stock, race’. Current senses date from the 17th cent.
