1. mistletoe   noun [uncountable]   

原句: But the impulse to give a little more-maybe too much-is more traditional than mistletoe.

意思: a plant with small shiny white  berries  that grows on other trees and is often used as a decoration at Christmas

字源: Old English misteltān, from mistel ‘mistletoe’ (of Germanic origin, related to Dutch mistel and German Mistel) + tān ‘twig’. 

例句: He doesn't believe the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe.



2. genetic   adjective

意思: connected with  genes  (= the units in the cells of a living thing that control its physical characteristics) or  genetics  (= the study of  genes  )

3. exodus   noun

字源: early 17th cent.: from Greek exodos, from ex- ‘out of’ + hodos ‘way’.

意思: the quality of being exact, accurate and careful

5. indigenous   adjective

意思: belonging to a particular place rather than coming to it from somewhere else

字源: mid 17th cent.: from Latin indigena ‘a native’ + -ous. 

例句: The reserve supports a wide range of indigenous species.
