1. defuse   verb   

原句: He goes out of his way to defuse any sense of stary-eyed adulation.

意思: to stop a possibly dangerous or difficult situation from developing, especially by making people less angry or nervous 

例句: Local police are trying to defuse racial tension in the community.



2. adulation   noun [uncountable]

意思: admiration and praise, especially when this is greater than is necessary

字源: late Middle English: from Latin adulatio(n)-, from adulari ‘fawn on’. 

例句: The band enjoy the adulation of their fans wherever they go.



3. overpowering   adjective   

原句: That it's an overpowering barrier to forging any kind of real bond with people?

意思: very strong or powerful 

例句: The heat was overpowering.



4. context   noun [countable/uncountable]   

原句: It depends on the context in which you're meeting people.

意思: the situation in which sth happens and that helps you to understand it
