1. regulation   noun   

原句: Qatar is nondiscriminatory and we will abide by FIFA regulations.

意思: an official rule made by a government or some other authority 

例句: Under the new regulations spending on office equipment will be strictly controlled.



2. committee   noun [countable]   

原句: In their final bid presentation to the executive committee.

意思: a group of people who are chosen, usually by a larger group, to make decisions or to deal with a particular subject

字源: late 15th cent. (in the general sense ‘person to whom something has been entrusted’): from commit + -ee. 

例句: She's on the management committee.



3. pledge   verb   

原句: Pledging ideal conditions for both players and supporters.

意思: to formally promise to give or do sth

字源: Middle English (denoting a person acting as surety for another): from Old French plege, from medieval Latin plebium, perhaps related to the Germanic base of plight (verb). 

例句: Japan has pledged $100 million in humanitarian aid.



4. dismantle   verb

字源: late 16th cent. (in the sense ‘destroy the defensive capability of a fortification’): from Old French desmanteler, from des- (expressing reversal) + manteler ‘fortify’ (from Latin mantellum ‘cloak’). 

例句: I had to dismantle the engine in order to repair it.



5. resurface   verb   

原句: But old-fashioned methods are resurfacing.

意思: to come to the surface again after being underwater or under the ground 

例句: The submarine resurfaced.
