1. acclaim   verb   

原句: Although critically acclaimed, 2009's The Princess and the Frog was the most poorly performing of Disney's recent fairy tales.

意思: to praise or welcome sb/sth publicly

字源: early 17th cent. (in the sense ‘express approval’): from Latin acclamare, from ad- ‘to’ + clamare ‘to shout’. The change in the ending was due to association with claim. Current senses date from the 17th cent. 

例句: The work was acclaimed as a masterpiece.



2. identical   adjective   

原句: Are all but identical to a printed page.

意思: similar in every detail

字源: late 16th cent. (as a mathematical term): from medieval Latin identicus, from late Latin identitas, from Latin idem ‘same’. 

例句: The two pictures are similar, although not identical.



3. sizable   adjective   

原句: In the age of mega-franchises when movies need to appeal to a broad audience to justify a sizable investment.

意思: fairly large 

例句: The town has a sizeable Sikh population.



4. outdated   adjective   

原句: About an outdated video game character who's been left behind by the march of technology.

意思: no longer useful because of being old-fashioned 

例句: It is an outdated and inefficient system.



5. advent   noun   

原句: With the advent of "tween" TV.

意思: the coming of an important event, person, invention, etc

字源: Old English, from Latin adventus ‘arrival’, from advenire, from ad- ‘to’ + venire ‘come’. 

例句: Before the advent of the railways, communications were slow and difficult.
