1. thrash   verb   

原句: They start thrashing around very actively and they can't swim actively enough to irrigate their gills.

意思: to move or make sth move in a violent or uncontrolled way

字源: Old English, variant of thresh (an early sense). Current senses of the noun date from the mid 19th cent. 

例句: She thrashed her head from side to side.



2. forum   noun   

原句: The forum through which governments establish rules to protect wildlife.

意思: a place where people can exchange opinions and ideas on a particular issue; a meeting organized for this purpose

字源: late Middle English (in sense 2): from Latin, literally what is out of doors, originally denoting an enclosure surrounding a house; related to fores ‘(outside) door’. Sense 1 dates from the mid 18th cent. 

例句: Television is now an important forum for political debate.



3. retention   noun [uncountable]

4. tactile   adjective   

原句: Tablets, lacking a mouse or a keyboard, are better for tasks that have simpler tactile and visual elements.

意思: connected with the sense of touch; using your sense of touch

字源: early 17th cent. (in the sense ‘perceptible by touch, tangible’): from Latin tactilis, from tangere ‘to touch’. 

例句: He's a very tactile man.



5. for/in the foreseeable future   idiom   

原句: Tablets are likely to lag behind netbooks and laptops for the forseeable future.

意思: for/in the period of time when you can predict what is going to happen, based on the present circumstances 

例句: The statue will remain in the museum for the foreseeable future.
