1. refinery   noun   

原句: We see the Isla oil refinery.

意思: a factory where a substance such as oil is  refined   (= made pure) 

例句: He works at the town's oil refinery.



2. synagogue   noun  
 

原句: Here I find the Jewish quarter and syngogue.

意思: a building where Jews meet for religious worship and teaching

字源: Middle English: via Old French and late Latin from Greek sunagōgē ‘meeting’, from sun- ‘together’ + agein ‘bring’. 

例句: They went to synagogue every Saturday.



3. porcelain   noun [uncountable/countable]   

原句: European watches and blue-and-white Delft porcelain to tourists.

意思: a hard white shiny substance made by baking  clay  and used for making delicate cups, plates and decorative objects; objects that are made of this

字源: mid 16th cent.: from French porcelaine, from Italian porcellana ‘cowrie shell’, hence ‘chinaware’ (from its resemblance to the dense polished shells). 

例句: The design is copied from Japanese porcelains of the fourteenth century.



4. communal   adjective   

原句: Communal tables and eat baked whole snapper.

意思: shared by, or for the use of, a number of people, especially people who live together

字源: early 19th cent. (in the sense ‘relating to a commune, especially the Paris Commune’): from French, from late Latin communalis, from communis ‘common’. 

例句: As a student he tried communal living for a few years.



5. stacked   adjective   

原句: Produce stalls are stacked high with tropical fruits and vegetables brought from Venezuela.

意思: if a surface is  stacked with  objects, there are large numbers or piles of them on it 

例句: It is a table stacked with glasses.
