1. in perpetuity   idiom   

原句: And here these companies were charging up to 15 percent of my sales in perpetuity.

意思: for all time in the future

例句: The trust fund will ensure preservation of the site in perpetuity.



2. rip somebody off   phrase  
 

原句: It really upset me that people were getting ripped off like that.

意思: to cheat sb, by making them pay too much, by selling them sth of poor quality, etc 

例句: Tourists complain of being ripped off by local cab drivers.



3. elsewhere   adverb   

原句: TuneCore collects the revenue from iTunes and elsewhere on behalf of musicians.

意思: in, at or to another place

字源: Old English elles hwǣr 

例句: The answer to the problem must be sought elsewhere.



4. disburse   verb   

原句: TuneCore disbursed $30 million to its artists.

意思: to pay money to sb from a large amount that has been collected for a purpose

字源: mid 16th cent.: from Old French desbourser, from des- (expressing removal) + bourse ‘purse’. 

例句: The funds were to be disbursed in two instalments.



5. gross   verb   

原句: Many of his highest grossing artists aren't top 40 bands.

意思: to earn a particular amount of money before tax has been taken off it

字源: Middle English (in the sense ‘thick, massive, bulky’): from Old French gros, grosse ‘large’, from late Latin grossus. 

例句: It is one of the biggest grossing movies of all time.
