1. on the doorstep   idiom   

原句: The one-time All-American boy [finally] ended up on the doorstep of his grandmother.

意思: very close to where a person lives 

例句: The nightlife is great with bars and clubs right on the doorstep.



2. envision   verb  
 

原句: Blossomed into the star scouts had always envisioned.

意思: to imagine what a situation will be like in the future, especially a situation you intend to work towards

例句: They envision an equal society, free of poverty and disease.



3. relapse   noun   

原句: Other than one much-publicized relapse with alcohol in early 2009.

意思: the fact of becoming ill/sick again after making an improvement

字源: late Middle English: from Latin relaps- ‘slipped back’, from the verb relabi, from re- ‘back’ + labi ‘to slip’. Early senses referred to a return to heresy or wrongdoing. 

例句: A wide range of emotionally stressful events may trigger a relapse.



4. snag   verb

意思: to succeed in getting sth quickly, often before other people

字源: snag n. senses 1 to 2 and v. late 16th cent. (in sense 2 of the noun): probably of Scandinavian origin. The early sense ‘stump sticking out from a tree trunk’ gave rise to a US sense ‘submerged piece of timber obstructing navigation’, of which sense 1 is originally a figurative use. Current verb senses arose in the 19th cent.  n. sense 3 1940s: of unknown origin.

5. ubiquitous   adjective   

原句: Analysts estimate NFC will become ubiquitous within the next three to five years.

意思: seeming to be everywhere or in several places at the same time; very common

字源: mid 19th cent.: from modern Latin ubiquitas (from Latin ubique ‘everywhere’, from ubi ‘where’) + -ous. 

例句: Blue is derived from the ubiquitous indigo plant.
